What happens after you register

After you mail in your registration form, you may receive a confirmation notice in the mail before the election. If you register near the deadline, your county may not have time to send you a notice.

If it gets close to the election and you have not received a notice, you can call your county elections office to check on your registration.

All voters get information in the mail from the:

  • County Elections Office:  Your county elections office will send you a Sample Ballot that lists all of the candidates you will be voting on. It also has information on local candidates and propositions.

Keep your Sample Ballot! It shows where your polling place is, and you can use it to help make your voting choices.

  • State Elections Office: You will get a Voter Information Guide from the state elections office (called the Secretary of State). It has information about statewide candidates and propositions.

What does “nonpartisan” mean?

The Sample Ballot and the Voter Information Guide are nonpartisan, which means they do not tell you who or what to vote for. They just give facts and not opinions.

You may also get mail from different political campaigns that will have a clear point of view.

Of course, only you can decide how you want to vote.
