Return to What's New | Return to the VALUE Home Page Four New Board
Members Elected In January 2001, VALUE members elected four new members for the VALUE board. They are Darlene Garcia (California), Nancy Shields (Delaware), Donna Swain (Massachusetts), and Jennie Winnix (North Carolina). Approximately two-thirds of VALUEs adult learner members voted in this years annual election. The vote ended in a tie for three of the winners. A fifth candidate, Harold Lockwood of New York State, barely missed winning a seat. The new board members will be joining eight other members of the existing board: Gloria Ashford (California), Pat Blackwell (Indiana), Ed Castor (Indiana), Kitty Gilane (Wisconsin), Calvin Miles (New York), Annette Sessions (Connecticut), Dale Sherman (Ohio), and Emma Torrez (California). Marty Finsterbusch (learner leader from Pennsylvania) serves as VALUEs Executive Director. Former board Chairman, Archie Willard, will continue to be active as Chairman Emeritus. All board members are current or former adult education students. They have taken on leadership roles in their education programs or communities. VALUEs all-volunteer board is organized in committees which are in charge of conference planning; fundraising; membership drives; our web site, newsletter, and e-mail communications; advocacy efforts; bookkeeping; and other duties. Other VALUE members also participate in these committees. Congratulations to all of this years candidates! The VALUE web site will post profiles of all the 2001 board members soon in our "Learner Leader Profiles" section. Revised 2/14/01 |
