VALUE Begins Planning National Leadership Institute
for July 2001 in Columbus, Ohio

VALUE’s Program/Conference Committee is pleased to announce that VALUE will hold its next national Adult Learner Leadership Institute in Columbus, Ohio on July 19-21, 2001.
This three-day event is being planned with the help of the Ohio Literacy Network, Adult Learners for the Future (the state’s adult learner organization), the Ohio Department of Education, and other partners like the National Institute for Literacy and Time Warner.
The Institute will help adult learners from around the country to serve as effective leaders in their adult education programs and communities. The Institute will be planned and run by VALUE members. Workshops will be led by adult learner leaders from around the U.S. (A small number of adult education professionals will also be invited as observers and helpers.)
By early February 2001, VALUE will be sending out more details about the agenda, costs, hotel, and so forth. At that time, interested adult learners will be able to submit an application to attend the Institute. We hope to get a diverse mix of adult learners from all states, regions, and program types.
In the meantime, we hope that adult learners and other supporters of adult learner leadership will prepare to get involved in this national event. (We intend to make it informative, exciting, and fun!!!)
Adult learners should put July 19-21, 2001 on their calendars and begin raising funds to cover costs of travel, hotel, meals, and registration fee.
Other supporters of adult learner leadership should consider how they might support one or more adult learners to participate in this event.
