Adult Learners
Hit Trail to Kansas City
for LVA National Conference
(Posted October, 2000)
On October 4-7, 2000, Literacy
Volunteers of America held its annual national conference in Kansas City,
Missouri. VALUE was a partner in this conference.
A number of VALUE members (including
most of the VALUE board) attended and were involved in a number of special
activities at the conference. VALUEs Executive Director Marty Finsterbusch
reports these highlights:
- VALUE helped organize a
Student Lounge. This provided a place where adult learners attending
the conference could meet and relax.
- VALUE members helped to
train "Student Guides." These people helped adult learners
locate sessions or deal with any questions that came up.
- VALUE worked with LVAs
National Student Advisory Board to help run an orientation session and
a "homebase" session for students attending the conference.
- VALUE members ran a workshop
about learner leadership and VALUE.
- Members of VALUEs
Board and Committees held a meeting to discuss VALUE business.
- VALUE members had a great
time at a dance sponsored by LVA's National Student Advisory Board.
- VALUE Board Members made
lots of contacts with potential new members and funders.
- VALUE representatives were
given a high visibility role sitting at the head table at several conference
sessions.
- VALUE congratulates LVA
on another great conference. We are very grateful for the chance to
participate in so many ways.
LVA has been one of VALUEs
strongest supporters right from the start. We look forward to further
collaboration with LVAs national office and with LVA affiliates
across the country.
