2000 Membership Drive Underway(Posted August, 2000)
VALUE's Membership Committee has launched its annual membership drive. In early August, we mailed a renewal form to all VALUE members who had a free one-year membership from the summer of 1999 to September 1, 2000. Those free memberships are about to run out.
We hope that those who had free memberships will now renew their membership for another year. To renew, they need to send in the renewal form and a special half-price fee for one year.
In September and October, we will also be reaching out to other people who have never become VALUE members. The following categories of individuals and organizations can become VALUE members:
1. Individual adult learners (current and former students in adult basic education and ESOL programs).
2. Adult learner organizations (local and state organizations run by adult learners).
3. Individual supporters (individuals who don't fall into the "individual adult learner" category).
4. Nonprofit adult education organizations.
5. Other nonprofit organizations.
6. Corporations.
It will be very important for VALUE to increase its membership in the coming year for these reasons:
- Membership fees are an important
part of our budget.
- We use our membership network
to learn about the needs of adult learners and to get the word out about
issues that are important to adult learners.
- Members can get access to
leadership training workshops and other VALUE services.
- We are looking for active
adult learner leaders who can serve on our committees and run for our
national board.
- A strong membership can give adult learners a united voice when communicating with policy makers and funders.
If your membership is about to expire, please send in the membership renewal form which was sent to you in early August. (We don't want to lose you!!!!) If you have never been a VALUE member, please complete the Membership Form (found elsewhere on the VALUE web site) and mail it in with your fee as soon as possible.
VALUE's volunteer board and part-time staff are working hard to create a national organization for adult learners and other supporters of adult learner leadership. Please take advantage of this opportunity and join us now.
