Return to What's New | Return to the VALUE Home Page Washington State Invests in Learner Leadership(Posted June, 2000) The Office of Adult Literacy in Washington State is making adult learner leadership a major priority. VALUE representatives travelled to Washington State in mid-May to meet for two days with adult learners and adult education practitioners. Several of the learners in attendance had participated in VALUEs Adult Learner Leadership Institute in Indianapolis in June 1999. (The Office of Adult Literacy had paid for their travel to that Institute.) The recent meetings in May resulted in:
The Office of Adult Literacy is showing its support for learner leadership by investing funds and staff time to this new initiative. VALUE representatives will return to Washington to conduct learner leadership workshops at the July adult learner conference. VALUE hopes to provide similar conference planning, leadership training, and learner-organization planning services to other states in the coming year.
