Return to What's New | Return to the VALUE Home Page Archie Willard Recovering from Heart Attack(Posted June, 2000) VALUE Chairman Archie Willard suffered a heart attack on May 23, 2000. This happened as the VALUE Board was concluding a three-day meeting in New York City. Board members called 911, and Archie was transported to nearby New York University Medical Center. Emergency room staff determined that he had had a heart attack, and the next day Archie had triple by-pass surgery. Archies wife, Wanda, and daughter, Kelli, flew in to be with Archie. He was also visited by VALUE board members and other people from the literacy field who live in New York and New Jersey. Dozens of people sent e-mails expressing their concern, and these were passed on to Archie. Since his surgery, Archie has recuperated at the hospital. His prognisis is very good. He is scheduled to fly back to Iowa by the second week of June. Archie and his family thank everyone for the support and friendship they have shown in their visits, messages, and gifts. VALUE is thankful that Archie is emerging from this crisis in good shape. If youd like to send Archie a get-well card, mail it to him at 30 Parkview Drive, Eagle Grove, Iowa 50533. Revised 6/5/00 |
