Information about VALUE and its Leadership Institute

The mission of VALUE is to expand the role of adult learners as leaders in the effort to promote the success of literacy throughout the nation. VALUE is a resource for adult learners, literacy practitioners, and policy makers as it strives to heighten public awareness, advocate for effective policies and practices, and promote the understanding that each and every one who wants to improve his/her literacy skills can do so. VALUE encourages and aids individuals, groups or organizations desiring to foster the development of leadership skills for adult learners in literacy, adult education programs, and communities. Learner leaders can:

1. Increase the number of learners who sign up for adult education services and stay successful in those programs.

2. Encourage administrators to utilize adult learners within their programs.

3. Educate policy makers and the general public about the value of investing in lifelong learning opportunities. (From beginning level readers and continuing)

4. Develop the leadership capacities of learners to enable them to tackle problems within their education programs and out in their communities.
