New Doors to the Future

The State Literacy Regional Resource Center (SLRRC) in Santa Ana is very excited about the upcoming conference for new learners entitled "New Doors to the Future." This special event will be Saturday, May 3, on the Santa Ana College campus from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on the corner of Bristol and 17th in Santa Ana. What is especially exciting is that the conference is being planned. organized, and mainly presented by the learners themselves! To view larger photographs, click on the photo.

John Corcoran, author of The Teacher Who Couldn't Read, is the keynote speaker. Workshops include:

  • "When English Is Not Your First Language" by Sandra Porras, Lupe Beas, and Hugo Gamero.

  • "Individual and Cultural Differences" by Gudelia Ramirez and Irma Ramirez

  • "Managing Stress" by Patty Siquenza

  • "Living Your Dreams through Positive Attitude" by Annabelle Palacios and Rudy Diaz,

  • "How to Become a Better Student" by Patty Siquenza and Sam Fuga,

  • "Taking Action for Our Children's Education" by Gudelia Ramirez, Charlotte Reynoso, and Irma Ramirez

  • John Zickefoose and Sandra Porras will have hands-on training in the computer lab.

On the day of the conference, follow the colorful balloons to Russell Hall where John Corcoran, the keynote speaker begins the day. Pre-registration is a must for pizza count! We are expecting 150 people. Call (714) 564-5105 for registration or additional details.
