The MAEP Regional Resource Center is located in the heart of Silicon Valley. (Click here to view a map of the center) Its staff serves individuals and agencies from the following counties: Marin, San Mateo, San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Benito, and Monterey.

This Regional Resource Center is one of the original ones in the state. It was established in the late 1980's as part of the implementation of competency-based adult education (CBAE) in California. The original purpose of the Resosurce Center was to offer on-site staff development and training and observation of competency based education classrooms in session.

Although these services are still provided, the Resource Center's functions have been modified along with changes in funding. In 1994, California's Governor Pete Wilson created the State Literacy Resource Center (SLRC) of California with federal funds that are administsered by the State Collaborative Literacy Council (SCLC), a joint effort of six state agencies, each of which has literacy activities and interests. The various adult education providers include community-based organizations as well as the following state agencies:

California Conservation Corps

California Department of Corrections

California Department of Education

California State Library

Chancellor's Office of the California Community Colleges
