Athena-Earth and Space Science for K-12: Oceans, Earth, Weather, Space, and More: http://athena.wednet.edu/index.html This project is funded by NASA's Public Use of Remote Sensing Data, now part of the Learning Technologies Project. The curricular section includes lists of links to "instructional material" and "resource material", nicely organized into the sections listed in the title. The webpages for teachers include a new user guide, introductory materials, and suggestions for presentations.
SEGway: Science Education
Gate-Way! http://cse.ssl.berkeley.edu/segway
The Science Education Gateway is a series of "learning adventures" in
Earth and space science. The site is designed for "teachers,
students, home-schoolers, and all science fans." SEGWAY is a public
resource center of the Science Information Infrastructure, a partner
with NASA's Learning Technologies Project. This is a collaborative
effort between museums, researchers, and educators. There are
"Resource Toolkits" for Space Science, Light, Cycles, Sun and Earth,
Weather, and Solar System. Each Resource Toolkit contains complete
lesson modules as well as a grab bag of activities, images, and
interactive tools. The toolkits also contain templates for making
online lessons and links to related activities and resources.
Here are two excellent examples of these learning adventures: in "Search for Ice and Snow", learners construct ways to find frozen reservoirs of water on Earth by using NASA Space Shuttle images. http://cse.ssl.berkeley.edu/lhs/SII/SII-EarthIce/ski.1.homepage.html "Big Trouble in Earthquake Country" offers on-line earthquake hazard maps and geological information so that students can assess likely hazards to life and property with earthquakes of various magnitudes. http://www.lhs.berkeley.edu/SII/SII-eqcountry/5eqcountry.homepage.html All the SEGWAY activities use Internet resources to acquire information; the activities are quite interactive.
Science Learning Network's inquiry
resources: http://www.sln.org/resources/index.html
This site has an annotated list of twenty inquiry resource projects
created by the science museums in the Science Learning Network. Each
project is worthy of a close look check out acids and bases in
"pH Factor", weather technologies in "Franklin's Forecast", and
ecosystems and life cycles in "Living Things". Many of these
activities have extensive links to additional information, with the
use of great science demonstration activities from NOVA and from K-12
school sites around the world. There is some overlap with the
activities listed in the SEGWAY website.
