Discuss vocabulary. . Use word attack skills while introducing vocabulary

While viewing the vocabulary be sure to point out base words, suffixes, and prefixes. Use of vocabulary outside of class should be assigned

Parents should be instructed to use the same word attack skills at home that are used in class. This will improve English skills.

Reading the vocabulary and discussing it will reinforce vocabulary skills.

Family meetings are a way to set boundaries and consequences in an environment of love and understanding. All family members have input, thus increasing "fairness". Developing guidelines and predicting outcomes and consequences is a necessary skill for success in life.

Children should be included in completing or adding to the handout done in class.

Having set guidelines and consequences will maintain consistency. It is necessary for discipline to be age appropriate or it will fail. Generating consequences of behavior by the parents will affirm their ability as parents and increase acceptance of skills. Open discussion between parents and children during family meetings.
