Handout-Family Roles

Each family member has a different role in the family. Traditional families have two parents to share responsibilities. In nontraditional families, such as single parent, intergenerational, and adoptive, each member of the family has to take on more than one role. Sometimes, with intergenerational families there is more than one person who hands out the discipline or is in charge. Different roles include rule maker, disciplinarian, peacemaker, organizer/doer, Troublemaker / black-sheep, baby, the favorite, and nurturer.

This activity will help class members to identify the roles played by each member of the family.
