Multiple Intelligences for Adult Literacy and Adult Education

While working with Peter Kline to design our tutor training model, we found it most helpful to look at the assumptions we make about adult new reader and how to teach them. As a result, we came up with a set of core concepts which serve as the cornerstone of our program philosophy. We like to post these during each training session.

We learn more easily when learning is fun.
We are all learners and teachers.
The tutoring relationship is an equal partnership.
Everyone is a reader.
Learning and tutoring is a process of exploration and discovery.
Use the learner's strengths to work with deficits.
We all learn differently; we need to respect our differences.
