The Task

    Before you read the book, The Breadwinner, by Deborah Ellis you will be gaining some background knowledge to better understand life in Afghanistan, during the time when the Taliban ran most of the country.

  You will:

• Research key vocabulary words in the book using the Web;
• Record you findings on a Sleuth Finder's Log ;
• Listen to a live radio station in Afghanistan;
• View the alphabet of at least one of the two major languages in Afghanistan, and learn to write and say the names of a few letters;
• Listen to an interview with the author Deborah Ellis;
• Download and print a cutout paper doll;
• Color the paper doll using what you learned about Afghan clothing;
• Create a Compare/Contrast chart between yourself and what you learned about the Afghan people

You will be using the Web to collect information, listen to live radio, and view video so you will be prepared to read The Breadwinner with an educated mind.
