I. A Federal judge issued
an injunction against Napster and its website.
A. The Napster website
allows users to download music without paying for it.
B. The recording industry and the band Metallica have sued Napster
for copyright infringement.
C. Napster says it cant control website users and doesnt
know what its website users do.
II. The injunction says that
Napster must stop on Friday, July 28, 2000.
A. Attorneys for the music
industry and Metallica are very pleased.
B. Attorneys for Napster say they will appeal the ruling in court.
III. This case is a very
important one about intellectual property and the rights of musicians
(and other writers and artists) to be paid for their work.
