Try To Get Electric Car Mandate Rescinded

I. California has a Zero
Emission Vehicle (ZEV) program.
A. This programs mandates
that a percentage of new cars have zero emissions.
B. The emissions of gasoline-powered engines contribute to smog. They
have a harmful effect on air quality.
C. Electric cars have fewer emissions than gasoline-powered engines,
so they are an alternative form of transportation.
II. Auto manufacturers want
the ZEV program mandate to be changed.
A. Automakers say that
the technology for Zero Emission Vehicles is not available yet.
B. Automakers say that the driving range of electric cars is only
70-100 miles before needing a battery re-charge.
III. Some consumers and activists
for clean air and a clean environment want the ZEV requirement to remain
in effect.
A. Some consumers like
saying goodbye to gasoline pumps.
B. Clean air activists say automakers will not build Zero Emission
Vehicles unless they are required to do so.
