1. It was against the law to drink and drive.
2. Laws not enforced.

B. Today people think it is a crime to drink and drive.

1. The driver does not drink at a party.
2. The police try harder to enforce the laws.

C. Results in California

1. Alcohol related deaths are down 61 percent since 1980.
2. Drunk drivers can lose their license.
3. Treatment programs seem to work.
4. Still more work to be done.

a. Every 6 minutes a drunk driver gets arrested.
b. One in fifty California drivers know someone killed by a drunk driver.
