The prime mission of the Governors Book Fund is to develop private sector resources that will be used to increase literacy and enhance the pleasure of reading for all Californians, especially for our children and youth. To address these literacy needs, the Governors Book Fund will focus initially on a school library enrichment program operated via a grant application process that will add quality books to elementary, middle school and high school libraries. Reading is the most fundamental building block of success. The Davis Administration is focused on improving schools, increasing accountability in education and ensuring that every child in California learns to read. We encourage you to apply for one of the School Library Enrichment Grants to be awarded in March 2002. On behalf of the State and the citizens of California, thank you for your participation in this resource program and for your support of our effort to bring the joy of reading and a future full of possibilities to our next generation. Warm regards,
