Students may prepare for the test by:

Some computerized instruction is available for ABE/GED students.

    English as a Second Language
    &
    Literacy Program

English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction is for both non-speakers of English and for those who do not speak English well. Students learn English for daily communication and work. Reading skills are not a requirement for these classes.

The KPC literacy program (which includes ABE, GED and ESL programs) is an affiliate of Literacy Volunteers of America. We provide free tutoring to individuals wanting to improve their reading and writing. Community volunteers are trained as volunteer tutors. Tutoring is also available to homebound individuals.

These courses are free, and participants can register anytime.

    Peer Tutoring
    &
    Writing Center

Tutor training includes Beginning, Advanced and Master Certification from the College Reading and Learning Associations. (CRLA)

Tutors may assist their peers in academic courses on campus, Adult Basic Education, or English as a Second Language. Tutors may also tutor in the public schools.

The Writing Center (which was initially funded through a president's special project fund) offers students free tutoring in reading, writing, study skills, or English as a Second Language.

    Testing
    Telecourses
    Correspondence

The Learning Center supports many of the testing needs of the University and also serves the community as a testing site for many national tests, which are used for admission, gaining college credit, and professional certification.

Telecourses (offered through UAA) offer an option to students who cannot attend regularly scheduled on-campus classes. They follow the same curriculum requirements as on-campus courses. The L.C. has copies of the videos for current telecourses, as well as information on other correspondence or distance delivery programs.
